The team training day was among the initiatives highlighted. As symposium panelist Beth Davis noted, team training has expanded since it began in 2007. Originally an exercise for medical and nursing students, it now also includes students in public health and in the physician assistant, physical therapist, anesthesia assistant, and genetic counseling programs.

Garrard Named to AHA's Section for Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation Council

Eric Garrard, FACHE, PT, chief executive officer of Emory Rehabilitation Hospital, a part of Emory Healthcare, has been named to the council of the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Section for Long-Term Care and Rehabilitation. His appointment will last for three years.
Hot Baths, Saunas can Relieve Pain, May Help Heart

Dr. David Burke, head of Emory University's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, discusses the benefits of including hot baths and saunas in rehabilitation therapy for various injuries, including brain injuries. "Hot baths expand the blood vessels and allow the healing properties within the blood to be delivered. They relax the muscles, which takes the tension off of them and the nerves that have been injured."
